Wednesday, March 2, 2011: Day 13

Wednesday, March 2, 2011: Day 13

First, I would like to wish my Grandmother a speedy recovery.  Unfortunately, she fell yesterday, but thankfully she had a medical alert necklace she wears, and was able to get assistance right away.

As I was with William today, I'm relying on texts from my mom for updates about Chase's day.

In addition to all of the doctors that have already come to see Chase (dentists, infectious diseases, dermatology, BMT), they apparently brought in an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist.  Why another specialist? Because Chase's fevers have yet to abate, in fact they've been getting higher.  He can finally swallow Tylenol, but it isn't having a significant effect.  Yes, it brings it down, but when he's pretty much staying around 104, it won't bring it down into a normal range.

Fevers with a reasonable explanation are one thing.  But when you've had a fever for well over a week that is getting higher and no one can provide a reason?  That's frustrating.  The ENT specialist used a tiny camera to look at his sinuses, but did not see anything alarming.  Mom said he was fantastic and stayed still through the whole thing.  Just thinking about it makes me want to squirm.  The ENT did recommend the use of saline to help prevent any nasal bleeding, but that hasn't been a problem.

As of 4pm, he had been having a great day in spite of fevers.  He had completed all of his laps, his two hour of chair time, and even got some extra rest in anticipation of William's upcoming visit.  I asked my Mom if there was anything Chase wanted me to pick up on our way their. According to him, all he wanted was some sweet tea and his brother here.

Although brief, the boys had a good visit with each other in spite of how Chase was feeling.  I could tell he was struggling to stay awake, but this is the longest amount of time I've seen Chase awake since he started getting these fevers.  It certainly wore him out.

Due to the morphine, Chase continues hallucinating on occasion.  Not long after he had gone to sleep, Chase woke up asking if his brother was still here.  It will be very nice when both of my boys can be back together!

Taking it one day at a time!

God Bless!
